Samsung’s Galaxy S22 Ultra may very well end up being the last Note, as it is not a Note. It’s trying to appeal to both productivity-minded stylus lovers and photography enthusiasts, but the Ultra could be the ultimate phone, period, or it might fall short for either.

Let’s take a closer look at this device.

S22 Ultra Body & Design

Samsung Galaxy S series is well known for its performance, design, and camera. Now if we talk about the design like you holding a powerful machine. You can’t complain about its design – just WOW. The hands-on experience is outstanding. It provides the impression of having a powerful and impressive device in your hand.

This S22 Ultra is similar in appearance to the last Galaxy with a Note in its name, the Note20 Ultra, which is itself an evolution from previous designs in this lineage.

It is simple, but also stunning when using the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra. The angles are squared off and I appreciate that cameras are not housed in a honking bump.

Dimensionally, it measures 163.3 x 77.9 x 8.9mm, which is taller than Apple’s 6.7-inch iPhone 13 Pro Max, but it is quite a bit lighter at 229g, in comparison with the iPhone’s largest model. Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra will be difficult to use for small hands. With its curved edges that make it comfortable to hold, the Galaxy S22 Ultra also feels slippery like a fish, even though one is made of metal and glass.

This device has two flat surfaces, one on the top and one on the bottom. With one tiny drill-through hole for a microphone, the top plane is largely a slab of metal that is unbroken. In addition, the phone includes a USB-C charging port, speaker grille, and S Pen on the bottom surface.

With an armor aluminum frame and Gorilla Glass Victus+ back, the Galaxy S22 Ultra feels solid and durable. Overall, the design is sleek and minimalist.

Another highlight of the device is its 6.8-inch In terms of resolution, it supports up to 3088 x 1440 pixels (WQHD+), which is equivalent contrast, the iPhone 13 Pro Max features a 6.7-inch 2778 x 1284 screen with a pit is worth noting that the S22 Ultra comes with a default resolution of 2316 x 1080 (FHD+), which Samsung claims uses less battery – though half-way through our testing we switched to WQHD+ and did not notice a significant reduction in battery life.

The Galaxy S22 Ultra from Samsung is a significant step up in terms of display quality. We observed smooth scrolling during our hands-on time thanks to the 120Hz dynamic refresh rate. As well as this, the device offers a touch sampling rate of 240Hz, which gamers may find useful.

However, there are two notable improvements in the display. Its peak brightness is 1,750 nits, which could make it the brightest screen we have ever seen.

In addition to the enhanced display, there is a new Vision Booster feature that automatically adjusts the screen’s brightness during the day. Therefore, using the S22 Ultra outdoors should be no problem even when the sun is very bright.

S22 Ultra Processor & Memory

A new flagship device from Samsung, the Galaxy S22 Ultra is one of the first smartphones to feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor, a 4nm chip that promises increased graphics and CPU performance while reducing power consumption. In international markets, Samsung will offer its own 4nm Exynos 2200 processor.

Throughout almost a week of intensive testing, the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra never disappointed us. It is a fast and powerful smartphone. The 4nm processor does not have the same performance as Apple’s A15 Bionic in Geekbench benchmarks, but raw numbers cannot provide the complete picture.

It is extremely smooth to open and close applications on the Galaxy S22 Ultra, despite having 12 GB of RAM. As a matter of fact, the S22 Ultra felt faster when switching between apps and closing them than the iPhone 13 Pro Max.

There are two different storage options on the Galaxy S22 Ultra, one is 256GB with 12GB of storage, and the other is 512GB with 12GB of storage.
You can upgrade the storage capacity to 256GB or 512GB when you purchase it, but there is no microSD card slot for expanding the storage.

The Galaxy S22 Ultra features Wi-Fi 6E connectivity, which Samsung says is twice as fast as Wi-Fi 6. And It comes with Bluetooth 5.2. According to Samsung’s website, this device can support 16 different 5G bands around the world.

Additionally, it includes all the usual Samsung flagship features, such as NFC, WiFi calling, etc.

5. S-Pen

S Pen SupportYes
S22 Ultra S-Pen

In my experience, the Galaxy S22 Ultra has the smoothest S Pen I have ever used, and this is a result of Samsung reducing the latency from 9 milliseconds to just 2.8 milliseconds. Therefore, your performance has improved by 70%. A significant improvement in latency also sounds promising, not that the previous one was inadequate.

One of the best things about this phone is that the S Pen does not need to be kept in a dumb case, as it has been required with the Galaxy S21 Ultra. Instead, there is a built-in holder for the S Pen.

Furthermore, the Galaxy S22 Ultra features artificial intelligence (AI) that predicts your hand movements and emulates a pen and paper experience. When you take notes, the writing is not only smooth but there is also a nice sound that makes it sound as if you are writing on paper.

The S22 Ultra and S21 Ultra displays are significantly different in terms of responsiveness when writing on the screen.

In addition to the handwriting-to-text improvements, Samsung has made several other improvements to the S Pen, including the ability to quickly save notes in Microsoft Office documents and emails.
With the S Pen, you can take notes on the lock screen (which are white on a black background), or open the phone to view a slide-in menu featuring eight customizable options.

We consider the S Pen to be an exceptionally useful tool along with being an effective drawing instrument despite its small size. Sketchbook opens and I am able to easily draw using the stylus and the screen, which recognizes both pressure and angle.

Dual SIM slots are available on this device. It supports two Nano SIMs in addition to E-SIM. And also, the phone does not have a 3.5 mm audio jack because its space is taken up by the S-Pen.

The in-display fingerprint reader is pretty fast and accurate, and also Face Unlock is also very Accurate. This phone comes with an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor which is again already very fast and accurate.

7. Camera

Main Camera108.0 MP (f/2.2)
Ultra-Wide Camera – Rear12MP (f/2.2)
Telephoto Camera– Rear10MP (f/4.9)+ 10MP (f/2.4)

Front Camera40 MP (f/2.2)
S22 Ultra Camera

The camera has two 10MP telephoto lenses: one has an aperture of f/2.4 with a 36-degree field of view (FOV) and the other has an aperture of f/4.9 with an 11-degree FOV. There is also a 12MP ultra-wide lens with a 120-degree field of view, as well as a 108MP wide-angle lens with an 85-degree field of view.

As a result of the Galaxy S22 Ultra’s many improvements, it is aiming to become the best camera phone, overtaking the iPhone 13 Pro Max and Google Pixel 6 Pro. The new camera features a larger main sensor for improved low-light photography, an AI-powered portrait mode and a new Super Clear lens.

The zoom capabilities of the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra are simply unmatched by any other mobile phone camera to date. Furthermore, the 3x and 10x optical zooms are well-designed and create vivid images of distant objects with enough clarity to crop in on details without experiencing much pixelation.

With Samsung’s 30x and especially 100x Space Zoom functions, you will likely see significant artefacts in your photos, at least in earlier iterations of their technology.

The new pixel magic extends to wide and ultrawide images as well. Samsung introduced an Adaptive Pixel in the Galaxy S22 Ultra. It utilizes nona-binning (first introduced with the S21 Ultra), which takes nine pixels and combines them to improve colour and contrast, and combines it with the full resolution of the original 108MP wide-angle sensor.

It looks like there is a fifth lens on the back of this phone, but it is actually a Laser Auto Focus sensor. A little red laser light can be seen peeking out from behind the glass if you look closely.

A Portrait mode in both the front and rear cameras performs well with portrait photography, and it’s becoming good enough to distinguish stray hairs from bokeh backgrounds.

Samsung explained that this is due in part to the company’s new depth map technology. In addition, there are some useful presets that allow you to make a virtual backdrop (a colour chromakey is used so that you can easily replace the original background later on).

Additionally, you can record 4K video at 60 frames per second and up to 8K at 24 frames per second. It exceeded our expectations.

We found the Portrait Video feature less impressive, as it falls short of the magic of Apple’s iPhone 13 line’s Cinematic mode video (it requires a face to be in the frame in order to work).

8. Os and Security

S22 Ultra Os and Security

Although the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra runs Android 12, it also features Samsung’s one-of-a-kind One UI 4.1 software, which is an Android-based interface.

With this interface, Samsung claims it is more intuitive and easy-to-use than previous versions, and there is a new privacy dashboard that gives peace of mind.

There is a free app called Expert Raw that enables you to access all the professional shooting features (ISO, white balance, focus, shutter speed), allowing you to capture raw images, which can then be edited on your phone by Adobe Lightroom app.

Samsung and Microsoft have an even closer partnership, so we added our Microsoft account, which includes OneDrive and Office. We also had no trouble connecting the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra to our Windows 11 computer.

Samsung has stated that their Ultra phones will receive security updates for five years and Android updates for four years. Basically, that makes the phone future-proof.

9. Gaming

This is also a very beautiful and powerful gaming phone, which allowed me to play Asphalt 9 in Barcelona smoothly. There is Nothing more to say about gaming in this phone because it has the best processor from the snapdragon. And the display is just Mind blowing – 120Hz refresh rate.

Conclusion

The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is unlikely to be of interest to everyone. Despite its size and price, the tablet may be overkill for users who want a good screen, adequate photos, and a smooth Facebook experience. When it comes to those who desire more, perhaps a device that runs Raw photo editing software, can mark up images and screens, create detailed works of art, and take zoom photos that will be the envy of your iPhone-owning friends, the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is perfectly adequate.

With the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, you’re getting a phone that’s as versatile and powerful as a folding phone could possibly be. Samsung’s cameras are much improved, especially in low light, and the display is the best we have tested on a phone. We have also been impressed by the powerful zoom.

Would you consider the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra to be worth $300 more than a Google Pixel 6 Pro? Choosing between these two devices is not an easy task. With the S22 Ultra, the display is brighter, the battery life is longer, and the chip is faster. But while the S Pen is smoother and faster, not everyone appreciates it. In certain instances, the Pixel 6 Pro’s camera quality is also superior.

Additionally, we have the iPhone 13 Pro Max, which is faster than the Samsung S22 Ultra, lasts longer on a charge, and takes superior photos (except in low-light conditions). However, I do prefer the sleek design and the more powerful zoom of the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra.
