Samsung Galaxy M53 Review & Specification: Good Upgrades?

Samsung Galaxy M53 is a New Midrange phone from Samsung. Since its launch in 2019, the Samsung Galaxy M series has always been known for its aggressive pricing and segment-leading features, a strategy that Samsung has never been known for.

The Samsung Galaxy M53 is the newest addition to the world’s largest phone manufacturer, Samsung. It’s a great choice if you’re in the market for an Android smartphone with excellent build quality, not to mention some pretty good specs on board.

In this review of the Galaxy M53, we’ll look at everything from its form factor to its camera performance and check out what kind of value it offers compared to other phones in its price range. Let’s get started!

It is never easy to pinpoint exactly what segment the Samsung Galaxy M series targets. On the one hand, the Galaxy M21 and the M12 are budget alternatives priced below the Rs 15,000 mark.

In contrast, devices such as the recently released Galaxy M53, with its Rs 26,499 price tag, fall into the midrange category. On Paper Galaxy M53 has decent specifications. So Let’s take a closer look at whether this phone is right for you.

What is the specification of the Samsung Galaxy M53 5G?

1. Body & Design

The design is impressive at first glance. It is a tall phone with a big screen. You shouldn’t have any problems if you have average hands, but you can’t use this phone one-handedly.

It feels very light even though it has a 5000mAh battery as far as weight goes. Samsung has done well with this phone regarding weight management since it only weighs 176 grams.

It’s the successor to the Samsung Galaxy M52, an underrated phone. The Samsung Galaxy M52 had a thick and bulky exterior, but Samsung did a good update this time. A 7.4mm thickness makes the Galaxy M53 phone one of the thinnest.

The Galaxy M53 has a polycarbonate glass back panel. Even though the finish is matte, it shines brightly under the light. The back has a minimalist design, with a curved edge camera panel and the Samsung logo at the bottom.

There is a Gorilla Glass 5 Protection and Punch Hole display in the front, securing the front Camera. It has very thin bezels on both the top and bottom sides—around 85% Screen-To-Body Ratio, which is pretty amazing.

This phone is thin because it has a super AMOLED + Display 30% thinner than a sAmoled Display.

Playing games or watching videos on the smartphone was a visual treat, and the large screen made watching content for long hours much more comfortable.

If I was browsing Facebook or reading a pdf, the 120Hz refresh rate made it a great experience. Unfortunately, there’s no adaptive refresh rate. It’s either 60Hz or 120Hz.

It was a little hard to use the phone outdoors, and sometimes I couldn’t read notifications because of its brightness. The smartphone has a peak brightness rating of 420 nits, which can feel like it’s not enough at times. For indoor use, it worked perfectly, and I had no issues.

HDR10 wasn’t available on Netflix or Amazon, a mild disappointment. There’s no problem for most users, but I was looking forward to seeing the full potential of the display. Considering the price of the Samsung Galaxy M53, this is somewhat expected since budget smartphones like the Redmi Note 10 Pro also have it.

You should always look for a Samsung phone if you’re a multimedia Lover because Samsung is the king of Display Makers. 

3. Processor & Memory

With MediaTek Dimensity 900, the Samsung Galaxy M53 isn’t as powerful as the Samsung Galaxy M52, equipped with Snapdragon 778G. That’s also interesting because Samsung normally doesn’t use MediaTek Dimensity chipsets on these expensive phones. Other than M53, there are five other Samsung smartphones with Dimensity SoC.

It could handle all everyday tasks, including multitasking, even though it’s not a processor Samsung has worked with much. I was also able to multitask between apps without much problem.

The phone comes with two RAM options, 6Gb and 8Gb, and two storage options, 128Gb and 256Gb. The Galaxy M53 comes with LPDDR4X ram and UFS 2.2 storage.

4. Connectivity

The Galaxy M53 has WiFi 6, and it also has a dual-band with the support of WiFi Direct. Also, it has Bluetooth 5.2. Samsung says this phone supports 12 different 5G bands worldwide, so it’s future-proof.

Additionally, it includes all the Samsung Premium features, like NFC, WiFi calling, Knox-security, Samsung pay, Dex, Link to windows, and Smart view.

5. Ports & Sensors

We can use two nano sim cards or one sim card and an SD card for increased storage capacity in this phone. However, the phone doesn’t have a headphone jack. That’s what Samsung did wrong by not including the Headphone jack.

The Samsung Galaxy M53 has a Side Mounted Fingerprint Sensor, Which is Normal in Nowadays smartphones. And also, it supports a Face Unlock system using a Front Camera.

There was a power button on the side and a fingerprint scanner. The positioning of the power button was just right, and I could easily reach it without hyperextending. On the other hand, the volume rockers were just a bit out of reach.

Recently, there has been a trend of not including a charger in the box. There is no wall charger included in the box of this phone. Even if you pay 25,000, you will need to purchase a charger separately. Samsung charges an additional 299 rupees for the charger for this device.

Despite the lack of stereo speakers, the mono speaker of the Samsung Galaxy M53 is surprisingly loud enough, and I was never bothered by the sound quality.

6. Camera

This Samsung Galaxy M53 comes equipped with a quad-camera setup with an amazing design. The primary camera has 108 Megapixels. The ultra-wide-angle lens has 8 Megapixels, and there are two 2 Megapixel Macro and Depth cameras.

There is no OIS or EIS support on this phone, which is the major flaw.

In daylight, the primary Camera took good daylight photos with enough detail and dynamic range for me to see both well-lit and shadowy areas with similar definition and exposure settings. Low light performance was much worse. As well as brightening the photos, the night mode increases the exposure for anything that’s lit up.

With the ultrawide Camera, you get wider shots at the expense of details and unnecessary blur around the edges. I was able to take some decent shots with the macro Camera, but I would have preferred a zoom optical camera. All images looked sharp and beautiful on the AMOLED display, but many of those same images would appear noisy and lack details on a larger screen, especially in low-light shots.

The camera performance was not as good as advertised. Even though it’s a good smartphone, it wouldn’t make much sense to buy it for its camera capabilities. If you are concerned about the Camera, you should check out the Realme 9 Pro+ or Motorola Edge 20.

7. Os and Security

This smartphone runs on One UI 4.1, based on Android 12. Some apps come pre-installed, but you can uncheck them when you set up the device for the first time so that you won’t get them all. Due to its high customizability and intuitiveness, One UI was one of the highlights of my smartphone experience.

It offers smart widgets, a default keyboard with emojis and text editing, secure folders, and camera enhancements, to name a few. I like One UI a lot, and it’s light years better than most native UIs (aside from iOS).

These phones will receive four years of security updates from Samsung and two years of Android updates. These phones are future-proof.

8. Gaming

In my experience, most game enthusiasts use mid-range smartphones because they’re the best to play games on. But When it comes to this phone, I can say it’s an average Gaming phone.

However, I do have some concerns over its performance issues. I tried editing a video on the smartphone, but there was a slight lag when switching to another app or out of the app. As long as there was no significant lag, this is still not a major issue.

While playing Call of Duty: Mobile for an extended period (over 90 minutes), my screen froze a couple of times, and I was forced to restart my device to get it to work again. It is important to note that I had similar gaming sessions at least 10 times, while that specific incident probably happened only twice.

I am not convinced that this smartphone is suitable for serious gaming. Alternatively, you can choose the iQOO Z5 or Poco F3 GT if you want a good gaming phone.

9. Battery

The smartphone has a battery capacity of 5,000mAh and can last a whole day. My smartphone would still have 20 percent of its charge left at the end of the day on the days when I moderately used it.

On the days when I used the smartphone extensively (such as long voice calls, video calls, gaming, or scrolling through social media), I had to reach for the charger before the day was over. However, smartphones should last an entire day, based on the average usage of consumers.

It is equipped with a fast-charging capability of up to 25W, which can charge the handset within two hours. Due to Samsung’s environmental conscience, the charger isn’t included in the box, so you’ll need to factor that into your overall budget for the phone.

The Samsung Galaxy M53 5G probably isn’t the right smartphone for you if you’re a gamer, a content creator, or a hobbyist photographer.

In its price range, it’s a really good phone. The reason is Samsung’s value addition. For Rs. 24,000, you get a smartphone with a good design, a good display, decent performance, and good cameras. That’s pretty good for most consumers.

The trustworthy reputation of Samsung, the intuitive and customizable interface, the Knox security, consistent performance, and the brand value of Samsung make it a good choice for smartphone buyers.
